A GUI for generating automatic tool path for single point incremental forming process
Incremental sheet forming is a promising process for sheet metal prototyping and bio-medical implants. Single point incremental forming is a flexible process which uses very simple tooling to make sheet metal prototypes and custom specific parts. The aim is to create a MATLAB based user-friendly, intuitive Graphical User Interface (GUI) for generating tool path for Single Point Incremental Forming (SPIF) process for various customised shapes with the desired step depth according to the parameters given by the user. The purpose of the GUI is to let all users, with or without high coding skills, create the desired tool path of given parameters with minimum effort. The GUI was successfully created using MATLAB’s built-in App Designer tool. The tool path for various shapes can be made, ranging from a simple circular truncated cone or hemispherical bowl, to complex shapes generated from processing ASCII based STL files of a CAD model made in any commercial CAD software or from processed CT scan data.
