ABSTRACT

Solar Energy has the potential to make our country a non fossil fuel dependent economy. However, it has to be harnessed efficiently, by using algorithms like Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) of Solar Photovoltaic Panels. Boost converter is one of the circuit topologies, i.e. it is used to achieve the above objective, wherein the average current needs to be controlled at MPP, irrespective of change in irradiation and temperature. Small signal modeling of the converter will be performed and the control to output transfer functions will be derived. Hence, the aim of this study is to understand the effect of these parameters and design the necessary compensators. Also the performance of derived compensators is verified using numerical simulations performed on PSIM environment.
